At the age of 76, John Scott, as the Low Country Men of the Church Program VP, reached out to Andrew Martinez, caddy for Tom Lehman, to speak at their regular monthly breakfast, this one was special because it was during the week of the Heritage golf tournamant held annually on our little island.
After years of running and competing in soccer had taken a toll on her, Amanda was drawn to yoga. By 2009 she embraced it fully, taking classed four times a week. She enrolled in an instructor program and became certified in early 2011. Mixing her knowledge of yoga with her degree in public health makes her a strong asset to the studio and to the community.
"The "Sir" John Scott Memorial Award goes to one high school senior across Beaufort, Jasper and Hampton counties nominated by their school officials for meritorious service without fanfare to God, country, family, school and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In recognition of their results in academics and athletics while serving others, awarded at the Christian Heritage Breakfast.

Andrew gave an "incredible talk" to 50 guys and suggested his boss, Tom Lehman, be the speaker the following year the week of the Heritage tourney. With the help of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Ministry, which Lehman supports to this day, Andrew and John made it happen. In April, 1997, during Heritage Week, Tom Lehman spoke to a packed house of over 500 men, women and young people and, as they say, "the rest is history" and so began what has come to be known as the Christian Heritage Breakfast. The tradition began because of one man's idea and perserverence. Gone but not forgotten, we honor our founder.
This year's award went to Walter Wheeler of Bluffton High School. He received an individual plaque, as did all six Honorable Award winners. Walter also received a plaque recognizing him to hang in his high school until our 2019 Christian Heritage Breakfast plus a partial scholarship to attend the University of South Carolina proudly presented to Walter by Mrs. Gloria Scott, "Sir" John's widow.
